ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
The Drag Academy Artist Collective Artist in Residence Program exists to uplift, invest in, and champion emerging LGBTQ2S+ artists. Through this program, we provide mentorship, platforms, and small grants to support artists as they develop their creative practice, build professional skills, and expand their visibility within the arts and cultural sector.
Artists in Residence receive:
-
One-on-one and group mentorship with established drag and queer artists
-
Opportunities to present and share their work with new audiences
-
Financial support through small grants to advance creative projects
-
Professional development, including bookings, collaborations, and promotional support
Our First Artist in Residence: Sandy Joint (2024–2025)
Our inaugural Artist in Residence was Sandy Joint, who was introduced to Drag Academy after winning the VS TMU event in 2024. Throughout 2025, Drag Academy worked closely with Sandy to support their artistic growth.
This included:
-
Connecting them with experienced drag mentors
-
Supporting the development of a drag-based storytime program
-
Providing booking opportunities to gain performance experience
-
Funding professional photo shoots to strengthen their artistic portfolio
Sandy’s residency set the foundation for what this program aims to be: artist-led, community-rooted, and focused on sustainable creative growth.

2025–2026 Artists in Residence
In 2025, we were thrilled to be introduced to Zi and Lady Liz Taylor, who will serve as our 2025–2026 Artists in Residence. Over the coming year, they will receive mentorship, resources, and platforms to further develop their artistry while contributing to the collective creative life of Drag Academy.
