Raíces en Drag
Stories of Migration Through Performance
Raíces en Drag is a 14-weeks arts initiative by Drag Academy that empowers 2SLGBTQ+ Spanish-speaking newcomers and refugees to explore their journeys through drag, theatre, music, and storytelling.
Participants work alongside professional Latinx drag artists to develop original performances inspired by their lived experiences, culminating in a professionally produced public showcase celebrating resilience, identity, and belonging.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Moving to a new country often means rebuilding your life while carrying stories of courage, loss, hope, and transformation. Raíces en Drag creates a safe, affirming space where participants can express those experiences through the art of drag. Whether someone has performed before or is stepping onto a stage for the first time, this program provides the mentorship, skills, and community needed to bring their story to life.
The program is delivered entirely in Spanish using trauma-informed and culturally responsive facilitation.
