Drag and the Art of Self-Care

Lecturer: Cyril Cinder

  • Online Session

Service Description

In this workshop, focus on how drag can contribute to your mental health and harness its power for good! Drag and self-care often exist in a very delicate balance with each other where performers use it as a form of self-discovery, artistic expression, self-love, and celebration - but it can also be something that leads to self-sabotage, compromised boundaries, strained relationships, and a distorted sense of self. Presented by a Registered Psychotherapist and drag king of 6 years, this session will focus on how people can care for themselves and their well-being both through drag and during drag. In this class you will learn: -Introduction and expectations for the workshop (intentions, limitations, legalities, i.e. “this is not therapy”) -Potential negative mental health impacts that drag can contribute to -Potential positive mental health impacts that drag can contribute to -How to emphasize the positive mental health impacts of your drag -How to find more mental health resources in your community
